This black lab and spaniel mud could not have had more different personalities, and that’s what made them so fun to have together.
Luna weighed between 14-19 pounds her whole life, but when she was a puppy, her best friend was a Great Dane. That dog got bigger and she didn’t, but she never found out that she wasn’t 120 pounds. She always lived with labs who she bossed around. First Maxine, the dumbest and sweetest dog I've ever known, and then Stella, who was a secret menace. Humans and most other dogs were really irrelevant to her. She had many jobs to do all the time that she assigned to herself and stayed busy until she was 17.
Stella would have done anything to make her people happy except when she really wanted to do something different. We constantly thought she was a really well behaved dog, but every so often we remembered that she was only well behaved when her desires aligned with human desires. Thankfully, that was most of the time because she was stubborn and hard to move when we disagreed.
Seeing two black dogs of two very different sizes do the same things was always adorable, and luckily, they liked doing many of the same things: hiking, boating, running away, being underfoot, and sleeping in beds.
I feel very lucky that I never need to get another dog because I had these goons in my life.
